How much does a website cost in India in 2026?
Anywhere from free to several lakh rupees. Most small businesses, professionals and creators should expect to pay ₹8,000–₹60,000 for a good website, plus about ₹500–₹3,000 a year to keep it online. Here is what decides where you land.
Typical prices by type of website
Price guides published in 2026 for the Indian market put most projects in these ranges. The spread is wide because "a website" can mean a three-page portfolio or a full online store.
| Type of website | Typical price in India |
|---|---|
| Basic or static site (a few pages) | ₹12,500–₹37,500 |
| Small business website | ₹20,000–₹60,000 |
| Large business website | ₹60,000–₹5,00,000 |
| Basic online store | ₹15,000–₹55,000 |
| Advanced online store | ₹35,000–₹2,00,000+ |
| Custom or enterprise platform | ₹5,00,000+ |

DIY, freelancer or agency?
Who builds the site matters as much as what you build. The same five-page business site can cost very different amounts depending on this choice.
| Who builds it | Typical price | Good when |
|---|---|---|
| You, with a builder or template | ₹0–₹5,000 | You have time and a very simple need |
| A freelancer | ₹5,000–₹25,000 for a small site | You want a custom site and one person accountable |
| An agency | From ₹7,500, often much more | You need a team, many pages, or ongoing marketing |
For a site of 1–10 pages, a good freelancer usually gives the best value: one person who designs, builds and answers your messages, without an agency's overheads.
What makes a website cost more
- Number of pages. Each page needs its own layout, content and testing. A one-page site and a ten-page site are different projects.
- Custom design versus a template. A design made for your brand takes longer than adjusting a ready-made theme, and looks it.
- Features. Contact forms and WhatsApp buttons are quick. Online payments, bookings, logins, blogs and multiple languages add days each.
- Content. If you supply the text and photos, it costs less. Copywriting, photography and logo design are usually charged separately.
- Revisions. Unlimited changes sound generous but stretch timelines. Fixed revision rounds keep the price predictable.
- Speed and SEO. A site that loads fast on a phone and is set up for Google takes more care than one that only looks good on a laptop.
Running costs after launch
The build is a one-time cost. Plan for these every year as well.
| Running cost | Typical amount |
|---|---|
| Domain name renewal | ₹500–₹2,500 a year |
| Hosting | Free (static hosting) to ₹60,000 a year |
| Maintenance (optional) | ₹5,000–₹30,000 a month at agencies |
| Digital marketing (optional) | ₹10,000–₹50,000 a month |
Fast, simple sites (portfolios, business sites, landing pages) can run on free hosting such as Cloudflare Pages or GitHub Pages, so the only fixed yearly cost is the domain. Buy both the domain and any hosting in your own name, so you always own them.

How to get a fair quote
- Write down the pages you need and one or two websites you like.
- List must-have features: WhatsApp, a contact form, payments, a blog.
- Ask every developer the same questions: what is included, how many revisions, how long, who owns the domain, and what support you get after launch.
- Compare what is included, not only the price. A cheap quote without mobile design, SEO basics or support often costs more later.
Questions people ask
What is the cheapest way to get a website in India?
A DIY builder or a free template costs the least, often under ₹5,000 for the first year including the domain. You trade money for your own time, and the design is limited by the template.
How much does a freelancer charge for a website in India?
Freelancer prices commonly range from about ₹5,000 to ₹25,000 for a small site, and more for custom design or extra features. Ask exactly what is included: pages, revisions, mobile layout, SEO basics and support.
Why do agencies charge more?
Agencies have teams: a project manager, designers, developers and testers. You pay for that structure, faster parallel work and a company behind the contract. For a 1–10 page site, a good freelancer is often the better value.
What do I pay every year after launch?
At minimum, the domain renewal (around ₹500–₹2,500 a year). Hosting can be free for simple, fast sites on platforms like Cloudflare Pages, or a few thousand rupees a year for shared hosting. Ongoing maintenance or marketing is extra and optional.
Who owns the website?
You should. Buy the domain and hosting in your own name, and ask for the final files and logins at handover. Avoid any deal where the developer owns your domain.
